The first interdisciplinary workshop in 2003 – liketwo other meetings before in 1999 and 2000 organizedby the Augsburg- and Munich-based working group on discourseanalysis in cooperation with the section sociology ofknowledge in the German Society of Sociology – focusedon theoretical and methodological interconnections betweendiscourse theory, social (re-) production of knowledge andthe role of cultural frames. The major aim was on unravelingthe implications of the French discourse tradition for theongoing German debate about discourse analysis and theory,especially considering possible links or barriers betweena (post-) FOUCAULDIAN perspective and actualcontributions to sociology of knowledge. A second focuswas centered about chances and limitations of applied discourseresearch and analysis in various fields of practice.Continuing participants’ statements and reports concerningmethodological and practical problems in doing discourseanalysis and presenting the findings the second workshop inJune 2004 opened up an interdisciplinary forum to discussongoing research projects. By this the meeting gave thechance to prove and ensure adequate theoretical positions aswell as methodological basics and methods for the participants’own projects.
