This study employed experimental manipulation to examine the causal effect of value orientation and enhance ecological validity. Specifically, after assessing participants’ perceived social meritocratic climate via questionnaire and grouping them into high/low levels based on standardized scores, then, we will prime either self-enhancement or self-transcendence values (with a control group receiving no prime) to investigate their differential effects on delinquency-based stigma under varying levels of perceived meritocratic climate.
