Acquiring observations very regularly at the fields and valuing them as decision-support elements for all the plots of a territory is an essential element to facilitate the work of the actors of the agricultural sector. As such, the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) are one of the most promising technologies because they provide complementarity with existing solutions (satellites, embedded sensors, meteorological stations), which have too low spatial or temporal resolutions. In order to address the current limitations of agricultural decision support tools, the overall goal of the project was to design, implement and evaluate a comprehensive information system, ranging from the installation of an operational WSN, up to the advice to the farmer or technician. Implemented in Champagne-Ardenne, the Casdar CROCUS project made it possible to assess the technical and economic interest of this technology, as well as to provide an overview of prospects for improving farmer advice. As such, CROCUS is a pioneering implementation of the Internet of Things (IoT) in agricultural fields.
