Abstract

The problem of preserving architectural cultural heritage during the renovation of inactive coal mines in Donbass is considered. In the Donetsk People’s Republic the coal industry is being reformatted, and coal mines, which have been used for coal mining since the XVIII century, are being retired or are in the phase of closure. Paradoxically, the state register of cultural heritage objects of the Republic currently does not include coal mines or their elements as post-industrial heritage objects. The current situation needs to be corrected, as these sites have significant historical and cultural potential for solving the problems of socio-economic development of the region. There is a need to study the problem of preserving post-industrial architectural and cultural heritage during the renovation of inactive coal mines in the Donbas. It is necessary to include the objects identified and studied in this area in a systematic Set of cultural heritage sites of the Donetsk People’s Republic. In international practice, there are successful examples of the preservation of coal-mining post-industrial architectural cultural heritage. The use of this experience and progressive trends in this area in the conditions of the Donetsk People’s Republic should be carried out through adaptation based on determining compliance with modern regionally determined requirements.
