Abstract

The SANT'Innov project focuses on the agro-ecological development of livestock farming considering animal health. Two main themes are addressed: health and animal wellfare in grazing dairy cattle and prudent use of antibiotics in the beef and pork sectors. The project deals with innovation from different perspectives: scientific barriers, innovative advisory practices, coordination in the value chain. The issues stem joint from stakeholders and academics; they involve a range of disciplines such as epidemiology, immunology, human and social sciences. In this paper, the authors describe the multistakeholder design of an app aimed at evaluating animal welfare in dairy cows. Both a cooperative and a research unit have been involved, as well as an expert steering committee in decision-making and end users during experimentation phases. This app contributes to building new shared norms and actionable knowledge about animal welfare friendly practices. The tool revealed reliable and was used to generate new research data.
