Presents a method for correlating the performance of building elements in real-world fires and test fires using the concept of normalized heat load, whereby the time at which a structure fails in standard tests can be related to the six input variables that determine the destructive potential of real-world fire. The technique provides information on the fire resistance required for achieving any prescribed level of failure probability.
