Peri-urban agriculture experiences exogenous influences due to a generalised urban sprawl. However, questions to agriculture are similar to those met in other contexts. The common tools (SCoT, PLU) in which rural extension people have to work are not sufficient and their competencies in a peri-urban context have to be adapted to the characteristics of urban sprawl. Our paper is based upon examples in Provence-Alpes Côtes d’Azur region and on a peri-urban CASDAR project It opens prospects of a future mixed technological network named ‘Jobs and competencies of rural advisors in peri-uban territories’ whose objective is to renew the competencies available in rural extension services, in order to set fruitful relationships with extension services of cities.
