Despite the growing appeal of the cultural-historical approach, there are still many of Vygotsky’s ideas that remain unrecognised and unexploited in educational practice. One such idea is the concept of developmental activity knots. The article addresses the process of formation of activity knots and the developmental transformations occurring in them. The example analysed is an extract from one of the sessions conducted in a youth club where we worked with teenagers at risk of social exclusion. They experienced cultural migration when they had to find themselves in a system of social relations that was new to them after being placed in an educational centre. The analysis of the changes occurring in the process of establishing knots of activity between adolescents and adults enabled us to identify the characteristics of the knots and the conditions in which they take on a developmental character.
