Summary: This article presents an experiment set up more than twenty years ago in the computer science department of the computer science department of Orléans, as part of the teaching of expression-communication. Based around a creative writing workshop, the experiment has involved about fifteen speakers and has concerned more than 2,000 students since its inception. The aim is to develop transferable writing skills for specialized and (pre-)professional writing, by working ahead of targeted support for such writing, which remains essential given the level of literacy expected in the course. The didactic device retained – a writing workshop inspired by the model of the leisure writing workshop and promoting rewriting – seemed sufficiently different from school situations to enable the students to overcome the poor image they have of French language teaching, and efficient enough to encourage their involvement in the final to texts of professional quality. After explaining the theoretical foundations of the approach, I will present the experimental device tested and the data used. Then, drawing in particular on previous studies and on the qualitative analysis of recent data, I will highlight the effects of the experiment, which are promising from a didactic point of view, in terms of investment, reassurance and distancing by the one who writes from writing and from his or her own scriptural procedures.
