Abstract

Aim:: to report a case of an infant who presented orbital abscess with exophthalmos and optic nerve compression revealing acute ethmoiditis. Observation:2years-old infantwho presented sudden onset exophthalmos. Ophthalmic examination showedrightpainfulexophthalmosassociatedwithimportanteyelidedema,chemosisandlimitedocular motility,anteriorsegmentwasunremarkableandfundusexaminationrevealedpapillaryedema. Thechild had fever at 39°. Orbito-cerebral computed tomography revealed orbital collection in contact with right ethmoidal planum that pushes right medial muscle and optic nerve. Evolution was favorable after sinus drainage and polyantibiotherapy. Conclusion: orbital abscess are rare and severe complications ofsinusitis in infantsthat engages both visual and vital prognostic.
