En se concentrant sur la période du mandat français (les années 20-40), cet article suit la circulation de la musique enregistrée au Levant et entre les différentes villes arabes méditerranéennes. Il se penche sur l'activité de la première entreprise nationale arabe, la maison de disques Baidaphon, basée à Beyrouth et à Berlin. Il montre que ses disques, en particulier les chants patriotiques, enregistrés à Berlin, à Beyrouth ou au Caire, par divers chanteurs libanais, égyptiens, tunisiens ou syriens, étaient au cœur des tensions mondiales entre les grandes puissances (notamment la France et l'Allemagne). Ces disques reflétaient l'émergence d'une conscience nationale et reproduisaient les grands débats de l'époque sur l'identité et la modernité, circulant au-delà des frontières géographiques, ainsi qu'entre le réel et le fictif. Abstract Focusing on the period of the French mandate (the 20s-40s), this paper follows the circulation of recorded music in the Levant and between the different Arab Mediterranean cities. It focuses on the activity of the first national Arab company, the Beirut-based record company Baidaphon, based in Beirut and Berlin. He shows that its records, in particular the patriotic songs, recorded in Berlin, Beirut or Cairo, by various Lebanese, Egyptian, Tunisian or Syrian singers, were at the heart of the global tensions between the Great Powers (notably France and Germany). These records reflected the emergence of national consciousness and reproduced the great debates of the time on identity and modernity, circulating across geographical borders, as well as between the real and the fictional.
