Vascular wilt of vegetable crops remains a major problem for producers, particularly for eggplant and melon productions. After a few years of using genetic resistance, growers are facing again to the same problems. The Vasculeg project made it possible to get a clear picture of the growers’ situation. In most cases, in addition to vascular diseases (F.o. melonis or Verticillium), there is an increasing number of specific bioagressors and this in the different areas of production. Different techniques of control are tested: cover crops, biofumigation, elicitors of plant defense and biological control. None of them regulates the pathogens; however many of them delay the onset of symptoms. The research for new sources of resistance has been successful for both F.o. melonis or Verticillium. Finally, works on research of new rootstocks in the Solanaceae family, especially in the genus Solanum (64 species tested during the project) pointed new possibilities. The results of Vasculeg project confirmed the need to combine several techniques of protection, especially when using genetic resistances to make t
