This article deals with the scrolls of master builders from the 16th century, drawings which were used in architectural décor. Information about girih patterns in the «bannai» style is discussed and their geometric patterns analyzed. Early bannai-style girih are examined including the geometric foundations of these designs, construction equipment used, materials, and methods of decoration from terracotta and carved bricks. The influence of monumental portal-domed structures of the Timurid era on the development of multilayer girih is mentioned. The main part of the article presents methods for constructing girih based on work drawings by the 16th century Bukharan master Muhammadi Sharif bin usto Foziljon mufti from scroll E (inv. No.4179), as well as the results of a geometric analysis of the bannai-styled girih at the entrance portal in the Abdullakhan madrasah in Bukhara. This article concludes that the evolution and complex methods of developing «multilayered» girih are based on the use of several layers of polygonal meshes.
