Abstract

The general purpose of this study is to investigate wheat insect pests and post-harvest loss in Tiyo district's primary wheat-producing kebeles. In this study, 600 quintal sample points were gathered at random from 20 houses to determine the infestation rate of wheat pests. Samples of wheat were taken using a 50cm bag sampling spear. The evaluation of postharvest storage management and wheat pest control measures was done through a focus group discussion with ten key informants. In the 600 quintal sample bag stores, wheat pest infection rates were 30%. Using one-way ANOVA, it was determined that the weight loss of the wheat grain was statistically different. This led to a significant weight reduction in the middle of the sack store, which was statistically different from the weight loss at the bottom and top. To manage and control wheat pests in sack storage, the majority of householders used synthetic insecticides. The infestation rate of wheat pests in sack stores was 30% in a sample of 600 quintals. The weight loss of wheat at the bottom, middle, and top of the bag store was also determined to be statistically significant. Chemical pesticides were the primary control and management tool used by the local farmers in the district to combat the wheat pests.
