First eigenvalue of embedded minimal surfaces in S³

Abstract

We prove that for an embedded minimal surface Σ in S³, the first eigenvalue of the Laplacian operator λ₁ satisfies λ₁≥ 1+ε_g, where ε_g>0 is a constant depending only on the genus g of Σ. This improves previous result of Choi-Wang.
