Abstract

This study was conducted in order to assess the influence of topography on soil chemical properties across the landforms in the Kubanni basin of Northern Guinea Savanna of Nigeria, in order to achieve this, satellite image and Digital elevation modern (DEM) of the study area was acquired and processed into various forms. A base map was produced using the landform map. A rigid grid method of soil sampling was adapted and three transverse were created with a grid at 100 meters interval, this was use to mark out sample observation points. Soil samples were collected at each of the identified genetic horizon of the six profile pit across six landforms. From the results pH was moderate to slightly acidic across the surface horizons of the upland plains while at flood plain it was moderately acidic at the surface and very strong acidic to slightly acidic at the surface, the pH was within the range to support wide crop production across all landforms. Organic carbon was low (< 10gkg-1) across all landforms, CEC was low to medium across all landforms, Potassium (K) was low to medium across all the five landforms of the upland plains but high at the surface of the flood plain. Total N was rated low (<1.5gkg-1) for surface horizons of the undulating plains and low to medium (<2gkg-1) in the flood plain.
