The demand for the reproducibility of scientific findings prompts open and transparent research practices. Despite the high number of practical benefits of transparency and data sharing for researchers and research organizations, there are contradictory opinions surrounding the possible harms and benefits. Data sharing has particularly improved in recent years, but the adoption of transparency policies still varies among journals, publishers, and disciplines. In this exploratory study, we will identify five transparency indicators (data sharing, code sharing, conflicts of interest disclosures, funding disclosures, protocol registration) in nursing research studies. We will use a cross-sectional study design to assess how transparency and data sharing indicators are evident in randomized clinical trials (RCTs). Nursing journals will be identified from the SCImago Journal and Country Rank (SJC). A retrospective cohort of RCT studies published between 2019 and 2023 in the PubMed, PubMed Central (PMC) and CINAHL databases will be implemented.
