The Catalogue of the exhibition VUFKU: Lost & Found, published by the Dovzhenko National Centre in Kyiv, Ukraine, unearths the brief but influential history of the All-Ukrainian Photo Cinema Administration (VUFKU) – an organisation that oversaw the Ukrainian film industry from 1922 to 1930. Dismantled by Soviet authorities amid Stalin’s rise and the broader denationalisation of Soviet cinema, VUFKU remains largely understudied and overlooked. This book-length project is the first English-language publication to examine VUFKU films, directors, and the unique avant-garde and narrative cinema produced during this pivotal historical period.
