The stability of a plane shear flow of an inviscid, incompressible and ideally conducting fluid of variable density in the presence of a non-uniform magnetic field inclined to the direction of the streaming is investigated, using the method which was taken by Howard 4) in the non-magnetic case. Sufficient conditions for the stability, a semi-circle theorem and a bound on the growth rate for unstable modes are established.
