Abstract This paper proposes a miniaturized dual-layer polarization conversion metasurface (PCM) integrated with an X-band slot antenna array. The checkerboard arrangement of PCM units enables broadband radar cross section (RCS) reduction via reflection phase cancellation based on highly efficient polarization conversion. The proposed metasurface achieves an effective RCS reduction over 5.57–12.2 GHz (74.6% fractional bandwidth) for x-polarization and 5.53–12.21 GHz (75.3%) for y-polarization. Simulation results show that the integrated structure maintains an impedance bandwidth of 25.7% (8.73–11.3 GHz), a peak gain of 10.2 dBi, and a radiation efficiency exceeding 85%. Moreover, a maximum RCS reduction of 39.8 dB is obtained within the operating band, while good scattering suppression performance is maintained under oblique incidence angles up to 45°. The measured and simulated results show good agreement, validating the effectiveness of the metasurface-based design.
