Abstract

A new species of Hydropsyche Pictet, from the Hydropsychidae family, Hydropsyche arpii sp. n. is described from the northwest of Armenia. The new species belongs to the Hydropsyche instabilis species cluster and is morphologically closest to H. kurdistanica Ibrahimi and Mohammadi, known from Iran, and H. kazdagensis Sipahiler, known from Turkey. Hydropsyche arpii sp. n. clearly differs from its closest congeners in the shape of abdominal segment IX with its dorsal keel, digitiform appendages on segment X, and morphology of the phallus. The species was found in an open stream near the Shaghik village, representing an inlet of the Lake Arpi reservoir. This finding represents an addition to the poorly documented Hydropsychidae fauna of Armenia and highlights the southern Caucasus as a region with underestimated diversity within the H. instabilis species cluster.http://www.zoobank.org/urn:lsid:zoobank.org:pub:40928BFF-E857-4A4F-8A44-212835562F4D
