Abstract

The aim of the article is to provide an overview of the scientific research and theoretical approaches that link the reading of fiction with the development of empathy. Empathy is an important skill for internal security professionals, which is beneficial in both preventing and resolving conflicts. The article offers recommendations for integrating fiction into the curricula of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences. When applied systematically, this can significantly improve the quality of internal security services and increase public trust.</i> <br><br> Keywords: empathy, literary fiction, reading, internal security
