Abstract

Missed Nursing Care is a global issue that occurs regardless of a country’s category, a hospital’s type, size, or location. Almost all nursing staff have engaged in Missed Nursing Care behaviors during their work. Relevant studies indicate that the incidence rate of Missed Nursing Care ranges from 75% to 98.1%. As a type of omissive error, Missed Nursing Care may trigger a variety of adverse effects. It not only increases the risks of hospital-acquired infections, falls, medication errors, and patient deaths, but also may enhance nurses' intention to leave their jobs. Accurate assessment of Missed Nursing Care has become a core prerequisite for formulating intervention strategies and optimizing the allocation of nursing resources; therefore, the selection of Missed Nursing Care assessment tools is of crucial importance. In recent years, various countries, regions, and specialized departments have developed a variety of Missed Nursing Care assessment tools based on their own clinical contexts. These tools differ in assessment dimensions, item design, and target populations, posing challenges for clinical workers in selecting appropriate tools and conducting cross-study comparative analyses. Based on the scoping review framework proposed by Arksey and O'Malley, this study conducts a scoping review of existing Missed Nursing Care assessment tools at home and abroad, analyzing the tools' development processes, applicable scenarios, and localized application situations. The aim is to provide references for the scientific selection of tools in clinical practice and the standardized application of tools in academic research, while laying a foundation for the optimization and unification of subsequent tools.
