Alfalfa, a drought-resistant and protein-rich forage legume, appears to be a promising solution to climate challenges. Although widely cultivated worldwide, it remains underexploited in Senegal. This project, conducted at the Environmental Center for Research and Training in Agroecology (CERFA) in the peanut basin of Senegal, evaluates the adaptation of alfalfa to tropical conditions. A complete randomized block design was set up. A decrease in the density of alfalfa plants was observed, as well as a significant increase in the height and number of stems per plant. The fresh biomass was estimated at 1,074 kg after one year on an area of 384 m². In arid conditions, irrigated alfalfa adapts well and deserves to be promoted.
