Abstract

A new series of trivalent praseodymium-embedded tri-former glasses were developed by varying content among the modifier oxides of Cd and Bi through conventional melt quenching method. The absorption spectral profile of the BPSXBiPr glass spans almost the entire part of the electromagnetic spectrum . The Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters of the titled glass exhibit the trend as Ω 6 >Ω 2 >Ω 4. Of the five prepared glasses, BPS0BiPr glass shows greater intensity in the luminescence spectra and the transitions 3 P 0 → 3 H 4 (blue) and 3 P 0 → 3 H 6 (Red) are hypersensitive in nature. The reddish-orange emission of the samples were confirmed through the CIE color chromaticity coordinates. The σ P E value for the current set of glasses exhibits the trend as BPS0BiPr> BPS10BiPr> BPS2.5BiPr> BPS7.5BiPr> BPS5BiPr, which proves the higher lasing ability of the BPS0BiPr glass. All the glasses in the current series exhibits >60 % quantum efficacy and are well apt for photonic applications.
