This paper deals with the impact of phosphate factory wastes of Gabes region on the marine environment. This study was carried out by INSTOP (Salammbo, Tunisia) from 1976 to 1981. Chemical contamination of the sea water, particularly offshore, degradation of Posidonia oceanica beds and fluorine contamination of some marine species were studied. Since phosphogypsum is the main polluting agents, its land storage is recommended.
