Abstract : Teaching writing is one of the crucial tasks that language teachers have to fulfill; learners also have to make efforts to develop this skill in order to grow as professional writers. Providing assistance in the form of instructional scaffolding to students concerning their writing abilities has always been influential, a truth that is drawn from the literature which examines the influence of instructional scaffolding on writing mainly assistance that comes from the part of the teacher. Accordingly, the present work addressed the intention of examining the effectiveness of teacher’s instructional scaffolding on EFL learners’ writing skill. The community under investigation constitutes Second year EFL students at Belhadj Bouchaib University. Two research instruments were devised to elicit data: a questionnaire for students and a structured interview for teachers. The results yielded from these research instruments reveal the focal role that instructional scaffolding played in developing students’ writing skill. Moreover, the elicited data demonstrated that students’ attitudes towards teacher’s assistance were positive. In response to these results, the researcher suggested the integration of instructional scaffolding as a fundamental part in the EFL classroom in general and in EFL writing in particular. Keywords: instructional scaffolding, the writing skill, EFL context.
