Coughisoneofthemainreasonsforconsultationinpediatrics. Theetiologiesofchroniccougharevariable accordingtothe different series. Theyare oftenvariable depending onthe country, but also in relationto the differences in the practices of primary care pediatricians. Aim:weproposetostudytheexpressionofchronic coughinchildreninourdailypractice, aswellasthe prevalence of the different etiologies and to make an inventory of the modalities of care for first-line pediatricians of a child who consults for chronic cough. Patientsandmethods:Itwasaretrospective,des- criptiveandanalyticalstudywhichconcernedchild- ren followed bypediatricians in the private sector. We conducted this work by collecting data from children who consulted for chronic cough for more than 4 weeks. The study period spanned 5 years . Thepediatricianswhoparticipated in the studywere 18, practicing in 4 regions ofthe country(Tunis(n=8),Sousse(n=8),Monastir(n=1) and Kairouan (n = 1)). Results:Westudied70patients,withanaverage age of2. 5years. We have foundthat in most cases chronic cough affects infants and young children. Thepatientswereexploredinthemajorityofcases by several additional examinations. The most re-quested means ofexplorationwerethe chest X-ray andtheNFS. Themostcommonetiologieswere asthma, GERD and allergic rhinitis. Regarding the diagnostic approach to asthma, we noted a signifi- cantvariabilityintheargumentstakenintoaccount by pediatricians. Conclusion:We propose atthe end ofthis study and after a review of the literature recommenda- tions for the diagnostic and therapeutic manage- ment ofthe child who consults for a chronic cough in the pediatrician in primary care. This will allow better management for the clinician, and would help to better understand the etiologies in our context.
