Abstract

The experiment was carried out at the experimental school farm, Department of Horticultural Technology, Federal College of Horticulture Dadin-Kowa Gombe State in 2022 cropping season to determine the effect of organic and inorganic fertilizer on growth and yield of tomato. The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replication. Treatments consists of cow dung at 10, 15, 20t/h and NPK at 50, 100, and 150kg/ha. The commencement of data collection was four weeks after treatment application. Data on growth parameters were measured which include plant height, number of branches, number of leaves, and stem girth while the yield parameters include number of flowers, number of fruits and yield per hectare. All data collected were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance (ANOVA) The results obtained revealed that tomato responded well to application of NPK (15:15:15) 50kg, 100kg, and 150kg compared in the study area with the best result obtained with 150 kg/ha of NPK and thus recommended to farmers in the study area.
