Abstract

One of the key physical processes in solids is screening, the modification of a potential felt by an electron due to the rearrangement of other electrons. Here, the authors combine inelastic x-ray scattering experiments and first-principles calculations to characterize the frequency-dependent screening of SrVO3, a prototypical metallic cubic perovskite. They show that the local variations at the microscopic level of the classical electrostatic potential between charges dominate the high-frequency response of this material.
