Identification of the newly observed Σb(6097)^± baryons from their strong decays

Abstract

Two bottom Σb(6097)^± baryons were observed in the final states Λb0π- and Λb0π+ in pp collision by LHCb collaboration, whose masses and widths were measured. In a 3P0 model, the strong decay widths of two ground S-wave and seven excited P-wave Σb baryons have been systematically computed. Numerical results indicate that the newly observed Σb(6097)^± are very possibly Σb21(3\over 2-) with JP=3\over 2- or Σb21(5\over 2-) with JP=5\over 2-. The predicted decay widths of Σb(6097)^± are consistent with experimental measurement from LHCb. In particular, it may be possible to distinguish these two assignments through ratios Γ(Σb(6097)^±→ Σb^±π0)/Γ(Σb(6097)^±→ Σbπ0), which can be measured by experiments in the future. In the meantime, our results support the assignments that Σb^± and Σb are the ground S-wave Σb baryons with JP=1\over 2+ and JP=3\over 2+, respectively.
