Abstract

Silver chromate (Ag2CrO4) nanocrystals were prepared by ultrasonic synthesis, template and hydrothermal methods. The visible-light photocatalytic activity of Ag2CrO4 nanocrystals was investigated. The products synthesised by ultrasonic synthesis method had the highest activity and photodegraded the organic dye completely within only 8 min. The products synthesised by the other two methods had the same degradation time of about 42 min. The photocatalytic mechanism of the Ag2CrO4 catalyst was studied. This work offered a new and feasible scheme that can dispose the chromium-containing waste water and can produce a new visible-light catalyst at the same time, which can degrade the organic pollutant in the waste water.
