Abstract

The paper considers the application of the metric ds 2 =dr 2 +r 2 d theta 2 +dz 2 +2 omega r 2 d theta dt-(c 2 - omega 2 r 2 )dt 2 to a rotating system. The first part of the paper considers the application of radar measurement to the rotating system. In the second part infinitesimal radar measurements are used to show that for an observer at a radius R within a rotating system, similar results are obtained, through the application of the metric, to those which would be obtained by the use of instantaneous rest frames.
