Abstract A new genus and species of water‐scorpion Goondnomdanepa weiri is described. Its affinities with related genera are discussed and a revised classification of the Nepidae at subfamily and tribal level is suggested with a new tribe Goondnomdanepini to accommodate the new genus. A key to the Australian genera of Nepidae is given.
