Abstract

Abstract The micrometeoroid flux for near-Earth space is determined by analysis of data gathered during a period of one year by the detector aboard Prospero, and is found to be greater than 1.7 x 10-2 m-2 s-1 (2π sr)-1 for a minimum mass threshold of 10~15 g. Statistical evidence of particle clusters is obtained. Comparison with the data from other detectors of lower sensitivity permits the Poynting-Robertson cut-off to be placed below 10-13 g, in agreement with several zodiacal light models.
