Bose, a renowned physicist of Kolkata (Calcutta), in the early years of the twentieth century, progressively turned his attention to plant physiology. Utilizing some self-devised equipment he described the existence of nervous system in all varieties of plants. Recent years have seen a renewed interest in this field. Acknowledging Sir Bose's pioneering work, a new discipline of physiology-Plant Neurobiology has been revived. The paper provides a historical account of this work.
