The Nation of Islam was the first significant indigenous Muslim movement in the United States of America. It introduced Islam, the Qursan, and Muhammad to thousands of African Americans. Elijah Muhammad discussed only two events from the sira at any length. The first one referred fairly often: Muhammad's finding of the black stone out of its place. The second event Elijah Muhammad discussed is the revelation of the Qursan and its commemoration during Ramadan. Elijah Muhammad also described Fard Muhammad as the tSon of Mant and the tGreat Mahdit which he believed implied divinity. It concludes that in later generations of his followers, lacking that same powerful experience, largely abandoned his radical and novel portrayal of Muhammad for the far more staid and ancient one.
