Abstract A new genus and species of aleocharine staphylinid, Austrospirachtha mimetes (subtribe Corotocina), is described from the Northern Territory. The species is an inquiline in the nests of Nasutitermes or Microcerotermes. The abdomen is physogastric and is reflexed over the head and thorax; it bears three pairs of secondary appendages, giving it an appearance not unlike that of a termite.
