Abstract

Because of his life-long interest in language matters, and even though he never fully mastered a foreign idiom, Mark Twain probed the possibilities of translation on several occasions, playfully as well as in earnest. The possibilities offered by translation for linguistic masquerading climax in his pseudo-translation Personal Recollections of Joan of Arc. This article focuses on this novel and aims to show that it coheres with the author’s perception of language diversity and the potential for creativity it offers.
