Abstract

Abstract A new genus (Kutaichthys) and two new species (K. gubini and K. dozmerensis) of early actinopterygians are described based on the morphology of isolated scales from freshwater and nonmarine deposits of the Ufimian and Kazanian Stages of the European Russia. The teeth from the type locality Pechora (=Dozmer; Komi Republic) make possible reconstruction of the topographic variability of the scale cover. Apart from the type locality, the isolated scales of K. gubini have been confirmed from the Upper Kazanian substage of Volga Region (Samara Region, Aksakovo locality) and Kama River basin (Perm Region, Kueda-Klyuchiki locality).
