The digital world promotes a series of innovations for the society. However, the digital world is related to a series of dilemmas of collective action, which can cause problems in human organization. These dilemmas of collective action characterize the tragedy of the commons, which requires governance solutions so that the digital technologies promote benefits and gains for the society. In this article, we discuss how governance elements are needed to design resilient and adaptive institutions to deal with the problems of the tragedy of the commons in the digital world.
