Abstract

The sublimation reaction NpF4(s) = NpF4(g) was measured over the range 820–980 K using Knudsen effusion mass spectrometry. The ionization potential of NpF4(g) is 10.4 +/−0.3 eV. The enthalpy of sublimation from second law analysis is 288.1+/−10.0 kJ mol−1, while the second law entropy of sublimation is 199.1+/−11.0 J K−1 mol−1, both at 298 K. The calculated enthalpy of formation of NpF4(g) is −1585.9+/−17.0 kJ mol−1 and the entropy is 351.8+/−12.0 J K−1 mol−1 at 298 K.
