Abstract The study of ancient mineralogy is concerned with the rocks and minerals used as building stones for temples, palaces, tombs, and city walls; ornamental stones for statues, sarcophagi, shrines, and vessels; gemstones for jewelry, amulets, and seals; and utilitarian stones for tools, weapons, and querns.
