Abstract

First Person is a series of interviews with the first authors of a selection of papers published in Journal of Cell Science, helping researchers promote themselves alongside their papers. Riley Roth-Carter is first author on ‘ Anoxia tolerant DNA replication is supported by ATR kinase in the annual killifish Austrofundulus limnaeus’, published in JCS. Riley conducted the research described in this article while a PhD student in the lab of Jason Podrabsky at the Department of Biology, Portland State University, Portland, OR, USA, where he investigated the cellular mechanisms that provide species with extreme tolerance to environmental stressors, and specifically how the genome is protected through control of the cell cycle and increased DNA damage response. Riley is now an adjunct professor, teaching at several universities within Portland.
