Abstract

Whereas scholars have suggested that early teen slasher films like Halloween (John Carpenter, 1978) and Prom Night (Paul Lynch, 1980) were made primarily for male youth, this article reveals the extent to which producers and distributors tailored the films and their marketing campaigns to appeal to teenage girls and young women.
