Abstract

The results of the first direct observations of the transition between solvated C 60 *C 6 H 6 and pure fcc C 60 in benzene solution with optical microscopy and combined with X-ray powder diffraction are presented. It is shown that the solvated C 60 *4C 6 H 6 structure at room temperature is significantly different from the low-temperature structure described before. The temperature of phase transition was found to be between 40 and 41.5 °C. A new method of growth of solvated crystals based on recrystallization of face-centered cubic C 60 to solvated form is described.
