Abstract We give a comprehensive introduction into an efficient numerical scheme for the minimisation of Gutzwiller energy functionals for multi‐band Hubbard models. Our method covers all conceivable cases of Gutzwiller variational wave functions and has been used successfully in previous numerical studies.
