pp. 63-80. In this article, I will analyze the official homages to Octavio Paz and José Revueltas, particularly the presence of their centennials in the world wide web (official pages and social networks). While Paz is represented in these media as a universal intellectual, the homage to Revueltas underlines his function as a committed writer. These characterizations include the emphasis on aesthetic aspects, in the case of Paz, as well as ideological positions, in that of Revueltas. While we can observe an intention or perhaps the beginning of a mere revindication or canonization of the literary works of Revueltas on a national level, the process of consecration which Paz suffers can be seen as a way of erasing nearly all the contradictions (those of the writer as individual as well as the social and political ones) within the official perception and public consciousness towards the author.
