n t h i s paper.This composite d a t a set has a l s o been used t o study p r i o r (12 t o 72 hours) d i f f e r e n c e s i n surrounding environmental f i e l d s between t r o p i c a l cyclones which recurved and those which d i d not.Basic d i f f e r e n c e s out t o 210 radius i n t h e wind, h e i g h t , and temperature f i e l d s between t h e s e s e p a r a t e c l a s s e s of storms a r e presented.A s t r o n g recurvature c o r r e l a t i o n i s found i n t h e 200 mb wind and height f i e l d s a t l a r g e r a d i i .It is suggested t h a t an o p e
