In the past, anthropology as a discipline has been somewhat reluctant to focus on dress as a subject worthy of attention. This attitude has changed in recent years, however, as new methodological and theoretical paradigms have emerged with regard to the intricate connections between culture and material objects. The entry provides a brief account of the wealth of anthropological information that can be gleaned when the focus is on religion and dress.
